We urge you to pay close attention to the wording that is used when you decide to have your eyes examined. When the phrases “vision test” or “vision screening” are used, you may not be getting essential care for the early detection of common eye diseases. But here at Tutela Eye Center, we are pleased to provide comprehensive eye exams, which include a vision test as well as checking for eye disease. The safety of your eyes is a very high priority for us.
Vision testing includes having you read from an eye chart, checking your peripheral (side-to-side) vision, and also doing a refractive assessment, in which lenses of different strength are placed in front of your eyes so that our eye doctor can determine the ideal prescription for you, should you need corrective lenses. Our West Orange eye exam should be a yearly ritual, because your vision needs are always changing. Whether or not you currently wear prescription eyewear, you may need new or updated glasses or contacts. Where our West Orange eye exam can be considered truly comprehensive lies in doing testing for eye diseases, such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and cataracts. You may think this isn’t such a big deal if your eyes feel fine and you have no symptoms to speak of. The glitch in that reasoning is those eye diseases form and progress silently. Symptoms do not become apparent until the condition has reached a more advanced stage. By then, your eyes may have sustained harm. That along with any vision loss that has alerted you to a problem could be irreversible. Why take unnecessary risks with your eyes and your vision?
